Monthly Policy Webinars

In October of 2014, the SNAP began a monthly series of Policy Webinars.  The first one, conducted by Kristen Carden of Earthjustice, covered such topics as: How scientists can become engaged in policy- making through all three levels of government; making law through the courts; and how scientists can engage in these processes effectively.  The second one by Marit Wilkerson, a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellow, focused on how SCB chapters engage in policy.  Dr. Rob Griffin of the Natural Capital Project discussed the process of valuing ecosystem services and its implications for marine spatial planning.  Additional speakers will discuss topics ranging from: wildlife and adaptation planning in Florida; the Department of Interior’s approach to adaptation planning; and using visual media to successfully communicate science and conservation messages.   You can link to archived presentations of past webinars below.

(When attempting to view WebEx presentations, you may be prompted to download a special viewer.  This is a completely safe and secure application and you should only be required to download it once.  It takes one to two minutes.  Simply follow the on-screen prompts to download the viewer; when you finish you should be redirected to the WebEx presentation you were attempting to view.)

Regional Policy Workshops

Past Workshops:

September 17, 2015 - SCB teamed up with the Southwest Climate Science CenterNorthern Arizona University, and the Association of Fish and Wildlife Agencies to put on our second climate change adaptation workshop, "Promoting Effective Engagement in Climate Change Adaptation Science and On-the-Ground Action" in Tucson, AZ. This workshop facilitated collaboration between SCB scientists, state, federal, and local government practitioners, and managers and key representatives from NGOs, in order to share expertise, strengthen regional networks, and enhance learning about recent state and federal initiatives.

June 3, 2015 - SCB and the University of Washington’s Climate Impacts Group put together a climate change adaptation workshop, "Promoting Effective Engagement between Science and Practice,"  in Seattle, WA, to foster collaboration between scientists and practitioners, provide a platform for academics to share their research on climate adaptation, educate students and post-docs in the science, and promote engagement of SCB members in adaptation efforts in their regions.
