Jyväskylä is an active and attractive city of sports and well-being located in the heart of the beautiful Finnish lake district. Our social programme will enable you to discover our town as well as its beautiful surrounding area. The Social Program is open to all participants. We warmly welcome you to participate in all of these events. The final program will be updated on our website and will also be given to you upon your arrival. Please remember to indicate your participation also to the social events that are included in the registration fee, as the number of the participants needs to be confirmed in advance. Therefore on-site registration to the social program might not be possible. Please see on our registration page which social events are included in the registration fee.

Sataman yö

Sataman Yö starts Jyväskylä’s summer season making a return in June 2018 after few years break. The headliner of the event is rock band Manic Street Preachers from Wales. The band is known for their controversial lyrics and for their iconic songs “If You Tolerate This Your Children Will Be Next”, “A Design For Life” and “Motorcycle Emptiness”.  In the event also performing are Poets of the Fall who are celebrating their 15 year long career, Disco Ensemble who announced they are calling it quits after this year and Pariisin Kevät.  Several thousand guests visit this event yearly. The event site is by Lake Jyväsjärvi right in the heart of the city, just beside Jyväskylä Paviljonki, the ECCB2018 venue, and the hotels. The venue of Sataman Yö, city-like but at the same time surrounded by nature makes the ambiance of the event special and intimate. A magnificent evening at Lutakonaukio, to the harbor end of the area, and showcase our international guests the greenness and versatility. Please note that due to alcohol regulations, children unfortunately cannot attend the congress dinner.

Buffet is open from 19.00. We wish everyone would come in by 20.00.

Sauna

Sauna is an essential element of Finnish culture so ECCB2018 has naturally a sauna element too. On both evenings without joined congress activities in the evening, you have an opportunity to join a cruise on a sauna boat that will departure just three minute walk from the congress center. Each cruise takes about two hours, and the best part is that they are themed according to your wishes to facilitate your networking with people close to your research topic or career status. Example themes could be for example "bird conservation sauna cruise", "female post doc sauna cruise" or whatever. Even though Finns usually go naked to sauna, the mixed themes go with swimsuits on, and you have the option to use swimsuits also on the separate cruises. And of course the sauna boat includes an opportunity to have a beer or grill a (vegetarian) sausage or a piece of local fish.  There are only about 150 seats available on the sauna cruises, delivered on the first come, first serve basis. So be ready when the registration opens! See the sauna tips for beginners.

In addition we offer some programs for accompanying persons. The tentative program is available here. The information will be updated on this website as further details become available.
