SCB members have expertise across all conservation fields and collaborate across borders to advance the mission and vision of SCB. Members include conservation and natural scientists, researchers, practitioners, policymakers, educators, students, and conservation professionals.
SCB's more than 3,000 members find leadership, networking, and career-boosting opportunities at SCB meetings, in SCB Groups, and the Society's online community Conservation Connection.
Six regions make up the SCB Global Network: Africa; Asia; Oceania; Europe; North America; and Latin America and the Caribbean. Regions are vital elements within the Society working regionally on issues to achieve our common goal. When you join SCB, you will also be able to choose your Region.

Membership Types
SCB offers Full and Associate memberships. Learn about each type below and find a complete list of membership benefits on the Membership Benefits page of the SCB website.
Full Membership
Full membership is for individuals working directly to advance the science and practice of conserving Earth's biodiversity. SCB's mission relates directly to their expertise, career focus, or primary professional identity.
Full members typically project as conservation and social scientists, researchers, and other conservation professionals in the private, government, NGO and non-profit sectors, as well as practitioners, policymakers, professors, and students who through their specialized conservation expertise and research contribute directly to biodiversity conservation. They regard SCB as either their primary or one of their primary societies in terms of professional development, networking, research, and involvement in the field of biodiversity conservation.
Associate Membership
Associate Members contribute in unique and valuable ways to the implementation of SCB's mission, but may have broader career interests beyond biodiversity conservation.
The Associate Membership is designed for individuals adjacent to our community who, for various reasons, have not yet joined the Society.
Community-adjacent individuals encompass a variety of backgrounds and value interdisciplinary collaborations with Full Members. They may perceive themselves on the periphery of the SCB network or SCB may not represent their primary professional identity, but their participation in SCB complements their work and advances biodiversity conservation.
In addition to formalizing relationships with community-adjacent individuals, the Associate Membership also seeks to improve accessibility to SCB by removing financial barriers to participation for those who see SCB as their primary professional home, but cannot currently afford membership dues.

Due to changes in SCB's management systems, multi-year membership options are currently unavailable. We recognize that members appreciate the convenience and value of multi-year memberships and SCB Global Services is actively working to address this as we also explore solutions such as auto-renew.
