Food Systems and Conservation Goals

Our overall goal is to forge progress in biodiversity conservation by raising awareness of the “win-win” potential of good health and environmental stewardship through wise food choices. We will work together to advance the science at this nexus, to educate stakeholders, and to influence both public policy and the private sector. We will operate through the distributed work environment of members built around the structure and strength of SCB. We will develop and promote our work while growing the group and seeking strategic collaborations, forming a positive feedback loop.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness in the conservation community of the connections between food systems, human health, and biodiversity conservation.
  • Provide a forum for networking, creative exploration, and constructive collaboration involving these issues.
  • Promote, guide, and engage in research involving these issues, followed with knowledge dissemination, outreach, and application by decision-makers (managers, political figures, academic leaders, etc.).
  • Advocate for inclusion of conservation principles in food system decision-making. Promote the overt consideration of environmental and health-related externalities from the personal and household level (scaling up) to public projects involving taxpayer funds and government-managed resources.
